Today’s journey into Napoli was a little damp but not on our spirits as we experienced the best pizza we have ever eaten. Napoli or Naples as we call it back home, lays claim to the invention the pizza, and I believe it. We stumbled on a very small clean pizza place with a wood fired oven just inside the entry. The proprietor that took our order also stretched out the dough, topped our pizzas with very simple ingredients and cooked the pizza for less than 2 minutes in the high temp wood fired oven. We topped this off by walking down the road to a Gelatoria for two scoops of heaven.
One other adventure today was crossing the street. I thought that Rome was bad but Napoli is the worst. The tactic is simple but not for the faint of heart so slow on foot. You begin the process by finding a cross walk, very few have lights and even if they do, no one pays attention. You then step out without hesitation and don’t stop, slow down or hesitate for a second, or you will find yourself in the midst of traffic zooming by and honking. And just when you think you have made it across, several scooters, going the wrong way zip by brushing you with their mirrors. I’m not exaggerating, it is that bad.

We also learned that it is a challenge for cities in the areas with lots of history to try to inprove their infrustructure. Every time they dig, they find a new historic site that needs to be preserved.

Hey, this is really a history lesson--we are enjoying it. Have a fun time!
Ahhhhh, Napoli!! Sounds familiar, oh that's right, we are heading down to Naples on the 22nd. We have a pizza place down there- "Luigi's" that has the best pizza- whoops, my mouth is watering, just thinking about it!! I can hardly remember our trip from Germany to Italy..but I can remember driving up a highway into the mountains, of Italy and seeing a chicken hanging, by its neck, by the front door of a house along the highway.
Would you believe it is 38 degrees this a.m.?! I guess we have had our summer..time to get on the road..We are so blessed that Jeffrey will drive us down to Naples; we will fly him back to Duluth. Enjoy every minute; it will be with you the rest of your life.
May God be with you both...
